It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Antje Hunter (nee Stahlmann) of Ripley and formerly of Hanover announces her passing on November 4, 2021 at the Southampton Care Centre at the age of 77. Beloved wife of Murray Hunter. Greatly missed by daughter Lisa Knapp and grandson Aidan Le Guillou, and by daughter Theresa Knapp and grandsons Michel and Patrick Coleman. Lovingly remembered by brothers Ingo(Onia) and Gus. Pre-deceased by parents Lotti (nee Gramlich) and Wilhelm Stahlmann, and by sister-in-law Jan(Gus) Stahlmann. Also survived by step-children Michael(Paulette) and Kerry Lynne(Doug), grandchildren Brody(Taylor), Cole, Keiffer, Brontae and Landon, great-grandsons Easton and Maverick, sisters-in-law Shirley(Dave), Betty(Ralph) and Kathleen, and several Stahlmann and Hunter nieces and nephews, as well as the Donaldson family.
Born in Wintershagen, Germany on March 14, 1944, Antje came to Canada with her family at the age of 11. She spent her earlier years working various jobs to help support her mother, father and younger brothers. Following the adoption of her two children and staying home to raise them to school-age, she then joined Hanover Kitchens where she found her appreciation for fine woodwork, developed her skills as a cabinet maker, and acquired a particular aptitude for sanding and staining techniques. After 25 years and at retirement, she went on to start up her own home craft business, selling her creations locally. Finally, it was the arrival of her grandchildren and her love of gardening that occupied her time. Living with Alzheimer’s since her late 60s, Antje faced her declining health with courage until her recent release, where she can now rest in peace.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Southampton Care Centre for their care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be considered for the Kincardine Legion Br. 183 (medical equipment fund), Pine River United Church or the Southampton Care Centre Residents to support the needs of others.
A private funeral service will be held at the MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley on Wednesday November 10, 2021, with interment to follow at the Kincardine Cemetery.
