Obituary

Deloris Marjean DeMille (King)

She went by Marjean and was as unique as the name that her parents created for her- there will never be another one like Marjean.

Born in Galt July 1st, 1930 to Ernie and Jean DeMille into a large and loving extended family, Marjean married her high school sweetheart, Jack King. After the birth of their first two children, they sold everything so that Jack could return to school to become an Anglican minister. They then embarked on an extraordinary ministry working as a team which took them to London, Lucknow, Walkerton, Windsor, Kincardine and Brantford. Upon retirement, Marjean returned to Kincardine for 30 wonderful years. She touched so many lives along the way it’s quite remarkable- Marjean loved many people and many people loved her. She was bold, progressive and philosophical long before it was fashionable. She loved to debate and she loved to sing. Every parish was happy to have her there for many reasons, one of which was her lovely voice.

There isn’t room to list her accomplishments and all of the organizations she belonged to, but her commitment and contribution to the Anglican Church was lifelong and genuine as was her deep and unwavering faith.

Where Marjean most shone was as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother – she was the centre of our family and we all knew and appreciated her deep and unconditional love. She took time with each of us, always treating children as the intelligent little people that they were. She was strong, loving and kind and always put her family first.

Marjean leaves behind her children Greg King, Kathy and Ray Buehlow, Nancy King, Paul and Wendy King and Jane Kaminsky, predeceased by her son in law David. A brother Dwight DeMille and her grandchildren Leia, Lauren, Jamie, Carey, Molly, Tessa, Grace and Peter as well as 7 great grandchildren. She also leaves her dear Tom Hanks, who became her loving companion the last few years of her life.

The family asks that any donations in memory of Marjean be made to the Church of the Messiah and they will be holding a private service in the near future.

We will miss Marjean and feel blessed to have had her in our lives, but we also know that she had a long and wonderful life and for that we will be forever thankful.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Aunt Marjean.

She was a strong role model and always made me feel loved and appreciated.

Marjean left the world better than she found it.

We are sorry to hear of Marjean's passing. I first met this special lady as a parent when I had the privilege of traching Jane and Paul at W.E.T.early in my teaching career..She was supportive and encouraging! In later years, we enjoyed our many bridge games and visits with her. Marjean will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her,

Sincerely Gail and Brian Johnson.

Dear Kathy and family: My many visits to Kincardine were not complete without at least one breakfast at the Beanery on a Sunday morning with Mars Edmiston and your Mom. It was always a wonderful look forward to for me as I loved both of these women. Your Mom had a magnetic personality, a pull to challenge you and want to know all about your life, all at the same time. She was kind and bossy and funny and loveable. Sadly I have not been back for those breakfasts since my Dad passed in 2017 but they are forever set in my memory as just another special reason to love Kincardine. May your special memories help you through this difficult time, XO Kim Caiger-Watson
