Dorothy (McConnell) his first wife died of cancer after 36 years of marriage. Survived by 3 children; Nancy (Jeff Kennedy) of Napanee, Donald (Ida) of Mississauga, and Jennifer (the late John Christakos) of Sudbury and 8 grandchildren. Denis married Shirley Harris in 1994 and he is also greatly missed by her sons Ronald and Douglas both of Ottawa.
After 19 years in oil and gas production both in BC and Alberta, he came to Ontario to work for Ontario Power Generation at the Heavy Water plant where he was a shift supervisor for 22 years. Shirley took an early retirement in 1995 and at that time they bought their first RV, travelling for 6 months of each year for 22 years all over the US, Canada and Mexico. Their 3 motorhomes were also his babies.
His Scottish heritage continued on to become member in Clan Ross. He was always proud to wear his “Hunting Ross” kilt. Denis was actively involved with the Kincardine United Church, Royal Canadian Legion (member of the colour party for a few years), Kincardine Lawn bowling, Kincardine Golf and Country Club, and was the founding member of the Kincardine Probus Club. Wood carving remained his hobby at home. Though all the years of travel, he and Shirley had their faithful dogs at their side and they greatly loved their constant companions “Bear” and “Coco”.
In June of 2017, Denis went to Tiverton Park Manor and in September of 2019 moved to Elgin Abbey in Chesley. Denis always loved a good laugh but didn’t like a joke being played on him!!
Following his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at the Kincardine Cemetery. Rest In Peace.
