Obituary

Cass, Donald It is with great sadness we grieve the passing of our loving father Don Cass on July 15, 2020 at the age of 87. Reunited with our mother Joyce Cass (2001). Cherished and loved by his 4 sons: John (Christina), Brian (Karen), Scott (Nancy), and Jim (Deb). Loving grandfather to Daniel, Steven, Jacob, and Ryan. Also survived and greatly missed by his sister Liz Hewitt of Windsor and several nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Walkerville, where he met and married Joyce Eastman. For 35 years, he worked as a Sales Executive at Hiram Walkers in Windsor before relocating to Toronto. Don and Joyce happily retired in 1998 to the farmhouse and family cottage at Bruce Beach. Don will be remembered for his active community service, including Huron-Kinloss council, director of Pine River Watershed Initiative, director for Bruce County Children's Aid Society, and trustee on the Bruce County Board of Education. He was also a dedicated member of the Point Clark Lions Club. Everyone who met Don knew he was so full of life and he would talk to anyone about anything. A Private family visitation and funeral will be held at MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley. Rev. Eric Williams officiating. Interment at Lurgan Cemetery. A Celebration of Don’s life will be held a later date.

Please accept my sincere condolences to the loss of your father and grandfather.  He will be sorely missed, I first came to know Don as a Director on Saugeen Valley Conservation Authrority board during his councillor years.  He was very proud to be a part of our organization, and of the trees that he planted at his farm. I further came to know him individually as part of the PRWIN committee, he was a kind hearted and welcoming person who cared tremendously about the environment.  My deepest sympathy to your loss. His smiling face and quiet chuckle will be missed around the table.

I was so sorry to read of Don's passing. My Dad, Jim Flett passed along Don's obituary to me.

I have many fond memories of Don and the rest of the Cass family when The Fletts' spent our summers at Bruce Beach.

My sincerest condolences to all of you, during this difficult time.

Our ondolences are extended to Don's family and special friends. Don was such a giving person, always supportive of his church and community. We knew him from his earliest retirement years through St. Luke's Anglican, and then Pine River United.  Don encouraged me to join Lions. He always  projected what a Lions Club member should be; involved in community on many levels and a person of integrity. His sense of humour and conversation will be missed. Kathleen

So sorry to read of Don's passing. He and I often drove over to Chesley together, when we were both serving as trustees of the Bruce Board of Education.Don was generous and kind and fun! He was a great guy and I admired his committment to all the children of Bruce County.

What a sad loss! We remember Don as a true friend and a willing helper to all. We'll miss his ready smile, friendly chuckle and always being game to do things! Living near each other, we often travelled together to church, Probus, PRWIN, Naturalists Club, golf and other trips. Don knew everyone. He and I often referred to each other as our dates when Bobbie was unable to attend things like Muskoka Boat cruise, wine tour or community meetings. Our move to Collingwood nine years ago and Don's failing health made steady contact difficult more recently. We treasure the times we did have! We also know how much Don treasured family and friends, so please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Bobbie and Doug Brown

We extend our sympathies to all of you on Don's passing.  He certainly was a big figure at Bruce Beach and I will miss the cheerful conversations I often had with him.  He would always stop on his walk along the back road when he got to our place for a chat which we enjoyed. I will let my brother and sisters know about his death. Sally will be particularly sadden as she was a great friend of Joyce's throughout her life and latter of Don too. I hope you can find comfort in knowing his was a life well lived.

Sincerely,

Frances and Gail

So sorry for your loss. I work at Trillium Court and enjoyed my daily talks with Don, he had such a great sense of humor. I will miss our chats. Lots of hugs to all. Take care. Sherry Baker

Dear Cass Family,

We are terribly sorry for your loss. Your dad was very wonderful to us. He always made us welcome on his farm. Don always allowed the kids to chase cats, visit the barn and pick fruit. He will always be a part of a lot of our families' memories. He will be missed.

You are in our thoughts and prayers,

The Black Family
