Mr. Cayley was truly a star in our world- His work with the young folk of Lucknow, the concerts at the Community Centre, his love of fun, his kindness, his adherence to standards, and the great joy of music he imparted will always be a warm memory-  and how the kids loved that band trip! We always knew it would be well run, and a great adventure! Oh When the Saints....Go Marchin` In....  Gordon, you`ll be right up there leading the band! Warm sympathy to Laura Lee and Family, with love, and memory smiles and tears.

I was very sad to hear of Gord's passing. I was fortunate enough to have him as a teacher, band leader, neighbour, parent of a friend, and patient. He was a huge part in the life of so many children growing up in Lucknow and touched so many lives. He remembered most of his students and loved to reminisce with them...especially about the amazing band trips that he arranged every year. He will be missed by the entire community. My deepest sympathy to the entire family...you are all in my thoughts.

Laura Lee & family;

My deepest condolences.  I am sad to hear of Mr. Cayley's passing. He was the best teacher/band leader!  I have many fond memories of being in the band.  I was a proud member of both the LCPS junior & senior band.  From our practices, parades, concerts, remembrance day ceremonies & annual band trips, these are times I will never forget.  He gave so much to me & the young people of Lucknow & surrounding areas.  Thank-you Mr C!

During the pandemic, I have been sorting through my "lifelong treasures". One thing I found was my "gold/brown" uniform!  I remember how much we detested them at the time and how thrilled we were when we got our navy & white ones!!!  Another treasure I have is my clock I made in Industrial arts.  It is still keeping time!

His dedication to his students will never be forgotten.  I am sure he is now the leader of a big ol' band of angels in heaven  now.....left, left, left right left.

RIP Mr C😢

So sorry to hear of Gord's passing.   He was a great neighbour and teacher at LCPS.   The band was great with him in charge.   He will be greatly missed.

Message from Jaime Jones2020-05-27 17:53:29

I was one of the many fortunate to have Mr. Cayley as a teacher at LCPS. I remember singing him a retirement song in the gymnasium to the tune of heart and soul? That was a long time ago, but I think it went like this:

Mr. Cayley, Mr. Cayley, Mr. Cayley, Mr. Cayley
Mr. C, we hate to see you go
That’s because, we really love you so
School......won’t be the same without you
And that is what we know

Mr. Cayley, Mr. Cayley, Mr. Cayley, Mr. Cayley
Teaching shop and instrumental
Songs with words, so sentimental
School..... won’t be the same without you
And that is what we know

He was such a huge impact on my public school experience and I adored him as a male figure in my life. I am so thankful for teachers and people like him to have been a part of my life. I hope his family knows just how cherished he is.

Message from Kerri & Mike O’Neill2020-05-27 17:45:35

Mr. ‘C’ always asked about both of our kids by name, even after 25 years, wondering where they were & what they were doing! He was an amazing man who influenced so many.students in such positive ways. The band trips every year were legendary👍. We will all miss him.

Thinking of you as you mourn your loss and celebrate a life well lived.  Dad thought the world of Gordon during their teaching days and so appreciated his work with the Lucknow Public School Band. You were both faithful friends to Stuart and Kay over the years. Sincere Sympathy.

Message from Helen MacIntyre2020-05-27 16:32:06

I was saddened to hear of Mr. C's passing. The story of a man from Norwich who moved to Lucknow and decided to create a band with almost 100 youth, which would travel to Ontario, Quebec and Michigan to receive standing ovations, seems an unlikely one.  Fortunately for many,  this is Mr C’s story and his legacy.  My heart is filled with gratitude for the gift of music, the memories and the opportunity to be part of something very special.   Even though we can't gather to celebrate his life with music and stories, Mr. C's legacy will live on through the memories and the gift of music he gave to so many people.

Message from Shelley Van Veghel2020-05-27 14:46:23

So sorry to hear of the passing of Gord.  I had the honour of playing with Gord in the Kincardine Brass Band, both fellow french horn/Eflat horn players.  Gord's kind comments and personal phone calls regarding our concerts after he was a member were so encouraging and such a warm surprise!  I taught instrumental music in Ripley, Brant Central, (Walkerton), and Kincardine.  Gord was fantastic when sharing music for my groups, it was a pleasure to help him out when the Lucknow school band had a reunion.  My copy of The Last Post was also from Gord, a piece of music that never left my conductor's folder as I used it every year of my career!  I still have it in my files, a wonderful memory of Gord's generosity, talent, love of music, and dedication to his community.  Our music community will sadly miss him.  My thoughts are with you, his family, at this time.  Take care.           Shelley Van Veghel

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. C's passing. He played such an important role in the lives of students at Lucknow Central. I have so many fond memories that revolve around him. I loved shop class and as a result don't mind weilding power tools around my house! Band practices, concerts, parades and trips hold sooo many fun memories. One that pops into mind every time I think of him is watching him walk through a mall on one our band trips. He was surrounded by some of the senior guys who were wearing Dtorm Trooper helmets and "guarding ". It was a very long time ago so I might not have the details exactly right but it was quite a sight and the memory always makes me laugh. Whenever I hear or think of certain songs I remember him too. Rest well Mr. C. Know your life was significant and mattered to many! You have earned your place among the angels. Peace and comfort to the entire family. God bless.

Gord is one that will be remembered by alot of people for so many different reasons as well as so many similar reasons

for all the years at LCPS as the 2nd chief in command , the shop teacher or the band teacher there are so many memories for us all

to remember him by

Gord was a delight to watch conducting a band he sure did get the room hopping.  The picture of him finishing off with the wiping of his brow of sweat is a vision I will always remember

And after the school years he always still had contact with the kids of his school years around town or at the arena and that is another vision I will always remember is of him flipping his cane around as he walks into the around always stopping to chat long enough to get caught up

He was a man who earned respect got respect and gave respect and was a friend to all
