Mr. Coultes was one of my favourite teachers. After he retired, I always looked forward to him stopping into HuronTel for a visit. He left a favourable impression upon my life, and I will always remember him fondly. My thoughts are with you during this time.
Nancy and I knew Doug as a friend and a colleague at Kincardine District Seconday School where he was a respected mathematics teacher.I enjoyed golfing with Doug, talking about the Leafs and Blue Jays, and his wonderful hospitality as he would organize staff get togethers for hockey pools and Super Bowl parties.Doug gave a lot to the community through his coaching and his Lion's Club work.Doug will be missed.Nancy and I send our heartfelt condolences to the Coultes family and friends.
We would like to send condolences to all of Doug's family. I first got to know him as our Math teacher. He also took an avid interest in any sports played at RDHS and enjoyed participating in several with the students, What perseverence he showed when he took up curling. In later years, we enjoyed playing bridge with Doug. He played an active role with the Ripley Lions/ Club and will be missed by many.
Mr. Coultes was a kind teacher even to those of us who were not particullarly gifted in Math. I had to have a grade 13 math to get in to University. First semester I struggled with Functions and Relations. While we waited for results of the exam, I had to start Calculus "just in case". He had a glint in his eye (and I believe a wink) one week into Calculus when he met me in the hall and confirmed that I had "passed" my exam and that I wouldn't need to come back to Calculus on Monday. To this day, I am sure he had to stretch some marks to get me that 50% pass! I will always be grateful. RIP, Mr. Coultes
My sincerest condolences to your family. Mr. Coultes was my favourite and most memorable high school teacher. He had a passion for math and passed that love on to many students. My fondest memory of high school was when he challenged me to a race to finish a problem on the board. If I won, no homework that week.... Not sure if he let me win or if I did beat him, either way we had a happy class. It was a tightly contested race!! He was also helpful to me when I was studying for a test as part of the hiring process for Bruce Power a few years after I graduated and he leant me a high school textbook to help me prep. A truly gifted teacher and wonderful human. He shall be missed by many of his former students.
We wish to extend our sincerest condolences on Doug's passing. We realized on our last couple of visits that he was struggling but it did come as a shock when we heard the news yesterday. Edward will surely miss Doug as they were best of friends for 51 years. Once again, our sincere thoughts are with the family.
