It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Stewart, beloved wife of the late Edwin Stewart, at Wingham & District Hospital on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the young age of 94. Mary was born in Beverly Township on September 11, 1923 to the late Sadie (Coburn) and John (Jack) Stewart. Mary taught us the importance and value of investing in one’s family more than anything else and leaves to mourn her sons Doug (Elaine) Stewart of Cambridge & David (Linda) Stewart of Ripley. Mary was a loving mom to the nieces she raised from infancy after their mom passed at a very young age, Ann (John) Scheurwater of Teeswater and Sheila (Bill) Collins of Kincardine. Mary will also be greatly missed by her sister Helen Smith of Richmond Hill, whose mother died at childbirth, and was also raised by a very young Mary! Mary knew all too well how important it was to step in and help as she was also left without a mom early on. She was very close to and will be greatly missed by her son-in-law Ted Clark of Flamborough, and her daughter-in-law Faye Stewart of Brantford. Also survived by 18 grandchildren & 25 great grandchildren, who will greatly miss her puddings and ginger snaps! Mary was predeceased by daughter Marilyn Clark, son Murray Stewart, great granddaughter Pania Hussey, brothers Robert & Neil Stewart, brother-in-law Doug Smith and niece Maggie Smith. Many thanks to Dr. Moores and his staff at the Wingham & District Hospital; to Nancy & her amazing staff at Nine Mile Villa, for making Mary feel so at home and well cared for; and to Lorne & Dionne, Lucknow’s pharmacists extraordinaire! Mary spent her life caring and cooking and welcoming so many into her home and loved sharing her gift of music with all who would listen. She touched the hearts & souls of those who knew her, strangers and friends alike, and she lived her life to the fullest, never venturing far out of her own backyard. Rare & genuine, inspiring & incredibly generous, Mary changed the world around her just by being the amazing woman that she was!

God looked around his garden And found an empty place, He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put his arms around you And lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never Get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyelids And whispered, 'Peace be Thine'. It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn't go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.
Mary, you were always a gentle, warm and loving friend and I will miss you so much.

we had word from uncle Arnold about the passing of dear Mary. What a wonderful selfless human being she has been to this world. I was reminiscing With uncle Arnold and my dad about the times in their childhood where they would run back-and-forth between the two farms and play with their cousins. it sounds like one of the most fond memories they have. and it must’ve been a wonderful time to have been a child. I know from the stories I’ve heard that Mary was is the anchor of that family and we think of you as I am sure she has been the anchor of yours
