J.S. did cut a tall shadow, but he was very much a gentle man, and enjoyed conversation and teasing jokes. He would often come into the office at Malcolm Place for a chat, and I always enjoyed his thoughts. He will be missed by many, my thoughts to his family, and gratitude for having had the pleasure of having him as a friend.
I only got to meet JS in the last 4 years of his life. He and my Dad, Doug Irwin grew up together on the 4th concession outside of Ripley.
Rest in peace JS. I'm sure dad will be waiting for you with the checker board
As a child I thought JS was likely a brother of the friendly giant with Rusty the rooster in the kids tv show as I only saw him from a distance when he came by our farm; He sure made a tall shadow; I grew up and moved away but usually spoke for a few minutes if we made it to Ripley events;; A few years ago when I was sitting with my Aunt Marian at Malcolm House we got to chat about how things used to be; Good times; Bad times; We covered a lot of miles in our conversations and as I told JS Our biggest frailty in life is that we are human; As my health deteriorates I now understand how his scooter car allowed him the freedom to get outside; I have met a lot of colorful people in my many years of nursing and he would be one from my childhood box of memories; RIP Tall man;;Ella
