I wish to express my sincere sympathy to Don's family at this time. I too was an O.V.C. 1973 graduate. Don joined my class following his bike accident and so we spent the last 2 years at University in the same classes. Don was a hard worker, always nice to be around and most certainly wanted to be a good veterinarian. I was from Lucknow and Don just north of there so we always praised up the area. I will be thinking of you at this time.
It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of my high schoolmate Don Hodgins. From 1960-1965 I was a classmate of Donny at Lucknow DHS and a friend. I remember the day he cut himself on the saw in Mr. Branch's shop class. I remember the class parties at the end of the 12th,the dances at high school and various receptions around the area wher he often displayed his boxing talent. I remember his sense of humour and I remember the kinship of our entire class as we progressed in LDHS. After I graduated and he took another year to raise the marks he got in Grade 13 (because we were all focussed on the social aspect that year, not the academic) I didn't see him again until he came to Guelph where I was in second year. He was a virtual hermit those first 2 years as he immersed himslf in studies so that he could get into Vets. And he did. Our paths crossed rarely since then. I spent my career in the Haldimand County area still in high school and he of course became a terrific vet, husband, father, meat inspector. But a lot of rain fell in his life too and I sometimes wish I had been closer geographically to be of some help during the tough times. I last saw him 5 years ago at a reunion and vowed I'd come and see him at his place north of Black Horse.I never did-to my regret. My memories of him are still strong after 50 years and I am proud to have known him as we went through our adolescence. My thoughts are with his whole family as you remember the man.
To Janine and her family.
My wife Heather and I were sorry to hear of the death of your father. Our thoughts will be with you at this trying time, and we trust you will be comforted by a lifetime of happy memories of your Dad.
