Paulette, Kerry-Lynn and families. Michael’s passing is tough news to accept. My memories of Michael are many and bring smiles again as I recall them. Michael was a year older than me and with class sizes at both Ripley schools usually supporting split grades, I occasionally found myself in a room with Michael. From days of chaos in Mr O’Donahue’s room to hilarious topics and side activities in Mr Brown’s Phys Ed classes, Michael always was part of keeping things interesting lol. High school reminds me of the jet black Ford pickup that was Michael’s pride. Decked out both inside and out, the low rumble, the shiny chrome Cragar mag rims and wide tires made this the sharpest ride at RDHS. Another notable memory of Michael’s truck was the stereo, booming tunes like Burning Beds from the 80s group Mightnight Oil…The Flax Burner Truck, and round baling straw are also synonymous with Michael. Michael was also a valued member of the world famous rec-hockey team “ Amberley Corn Huskers “. Michael did his best to control his side of the ice at both ends using either a distractive conversation with the opposing players or catching them off guard with his ability to make a stick to stick pass out of no where. Lol In the dressing room Michael’s gift of the gab kept everything entertaining and his one liners kept everyone in check.. should the truth ever begin to blur …..lol I am honoured to have known Michael. I would say rest in piece to Michael, but I’m quite sure he is full bore, organizing something big on that other side. Please know you are all in our thoughts and prayers.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Mike's passing. For more than two decades, Mike faced challenges that would have broken many people. Even after losing abilities that most of us take for granted, he kept finding a way forward for another 24 years. Time and again he showed extraordinary strength, determination, and courage in the face of unimaginable adversity. His resilience was truly remarkable and his strength of character (and yes, that “cheeky sense of humour”) remained evident. While words can never ease the loss you are feeling, I hope there is some comfort in knowing how much Mike was admired and how many lives he touched. His was a life marked not only by hardship, but by perseverance and a lot of love. Please know that I am thinking of you all and sending my deepest condolences, love, and strength to the whole family during this difficult time.

Dear Paulette, Brontae, Landon, Elaine, and Rod. We offer our condolences on your loss of Mike. When GBS attacked Mike, life as you all knew it changed. No one word can really describe the strength and unity and focus to cope that you as a family and Mike displayed to those of us on the sidelines. We at our home had so much respect and admiration for all of you, and of course Mike. It was a regular topic of conversation for us. We hope and know you will draw on all your amazing strengths together, as you grieve Mike's passing. Our prayers will be with you. My unplanned and sporadic visits with Mike over the GBS years is probably where most of my memories will remain. Mike was a keen and solid listener. He even heard what I wasn't saying! When throbbing pain would rear its head, Mike dealt with it without complaint, and returned right back where we left off. For most of us I think being able to feel that one can be good mentor is satisfying. In Mike's and my case, it was more a reversed role where after our visits during my trips home, I felt him as the mentor for me. With our age difference that always gave me pause. That's probably how I will most remember Mike. Sue and I will miss you Mike in so many ways. Thanks for your example of being the very best of who you were. God Bless you Mike and Rest In Peace.
