Marie was raised in the community of Purple Grove. She met Allan Colling, a Huron Township boy, and the two were married on May 19, 1951. They farmed in the township for 49 years, where they raised their six children. During that time Marie also worked as a mail lady and as a multi-service worker at Fludder’s Nursing Home. In 2000 it was time for Marie & Allan to retire. They moved to Kincardine to enjoy their leisure time.
Marie was never at a loss for things to do. She had many hobbies which included knitting, crafting, playing BINGO and cards, and going to the horse races. She and Allan loved camping, especially in the Bayfield area. She loved cheering on her beloved Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs, and spent hours watching curling.
Marie also gave back to her community through the many service clubs and organizations she belonged to. She was a member of the Ripley Horticultural Society, the Eastern Star, Red Hats, Purple Grove Women’s Institute, Happy Hearts Seniors Club, and the Huron Lakeshore Friendship Club. Church was important to Marie. She was raised Anglican and attended the Ripley United Church and the Church of the Messiah in Kincardine.
Her greatest pride and joy came from spending time with her large family. She will be missed.
Visitation will be held at MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral Home Ripley on Sunday September 21, 2025 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM. A Private Funeral Service will be conducted with interment at Ripley Cemetery.
