Doris “Elaine” Emmerton passed away on Tuesday September 2, 2025 in her 85th year. Beloved mother of Jackie Emmerton and Shane Emmerton and adoring grandmother to Cooper. She will be missed by siblings Lorrainne Smith, Leonard and Liz Smith, Pat and John Kane, Keith Shaw, and Carl Shaw, siblings-in-law Helen and Chris Petre, Terry and Elly Emmerton, Danny and Nancy Emmerton, Sally Emmerton and Kenny and Glenda Emmerton and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by John Emmerton, parents Alta and John Smith, sister Joan Sauve, and in laws Bert Emmerton, Lynn Emmerton, and Nancy and Russel Swan.
Elaine had a long career as a teacher, starting in the 1 room school house at the foot of the 4th of Huron where she tried to tame a crop of Emmerton and Lowry boys among others. She moved on to London after marrying John and eventually returned to Emmerton Beach to start a family. Once the kids got off to school she had a lengthy career at W. E. Thompson in Kincardine, followed by an equally lengthy retirement during which she did some travelling, volunteered for the legion auxiliary in Ripley, “lunched” with various groups and tended her gardens. She went to the gym every day and walked multiple times a day for as long as she could. She will be missed.
Following Elaine’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at St. Lukes Anglican Church, Lurgan, on Saturday September 20, 2025 at 2 PM with visitation 2 hours prior (12-2 PM). Interment St. Luke’s Cemetery.

Elaine Emmerton was one fine educator. I began my teaching career in 1964 at Northridge PS in London and Elaine, a member of the teaching staff was so very helpful for this rookie teacher. I am saddened to learn of Elaine’s passing but warm memories of Elaine, particularly her frequently heard laugh will remain. I ask Elaine’s family to accept my most sincere condolences on her passing.

Jackie and Shane,
I was sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. I worked with Elaine for many years. My memories of her include the many times she helped me at school, with the technology of that time, the VCR!
Remember, and cherish your happy times with your mom.

Mrs Emmerton, I still know my multiplication table and can say them as quick as we learned them in grade 4! You acted tough as a teacher but you had a great laugh and your students learned a lot from you! Thanks for some great memories!
Jackie and Shane, I am so sorry to hear about your mum. She was my grade 3 teacher and at the time I would not have said she was my favourite teacher, but as I grew and matured, I realized how important Mrs Emmerton was to me. She kept me in line, including some duck tape along the way! I am so grateful to have had her as a teacher and very thankful she gave me the kick in the butt I needed then. If you ask me who my favourite teacher was, hands down Mrs Emmerton. She was tough on me, but I am so thankful for it. If only all teachers took a chapter out of her book! She was one of the greats!
Rest in peace Mrs. Emmerton.

I enjoyed many years of teaching with Elaine. She was always well organized and thorough. My condolences to you Jackie and Shane. Many of her conversations centered around her family.
Elaine was a delightful co-worker at W.E.Thompson School. Whenever something needed to be found, we all knew to "Ask Elaine". Her laughter was contagious and plentiful. God Bless you, Elaine. I hope you're still laughing!
