Mary was born in Marysburg, Saskatchewan to parents Lawrence and Clara
Stroeder. Mary was the youngest in a family of 11 children. Mary moved into
Humboldt Saskatchewan, with her parents as a teenager and completed her
schooling. As a young woman, Mary met her future husband, Jim Lavery, a young
RCMP Officer stationed in Humboldt. They were married on July 4, 1964.
With Jim’s 36-year career with the RCMP, they were posted to a total of 8
different communities within Saskatchewan. Mary supported Jim in his career,
took each move in stride and always worked hard to get their family settled into
their new home and make connections in each community they lived in.
Throughout the years they made many lasting friendships in each community
they were posted to. In 1998, Mary and Jim retired to Richmond BC, where they
made many friends and had many happy times. In 2020, they made their final
move to Ontario to be closer to family.
Mom and Dad had a long and happy retirement, filling their time with travelling
the world, their favorite being cruising, and their yearly trek back to
Saskatchewan with their 5 th wheel to visit family and friends.
Mom enjoyed playing woman’s fastball in her earlier years, and was an avid curler
for most of her life. She did enjoy a good bonspiel! She enjoyed baking and her
buns and cinnamon buns were legendary. One of her favorite things was hosting
friends and neighbors for meals and get togethers.
Mary is survived by her children, Brent and his wife Lynnette Lalkowski of
Saskatoon, SK and their children Lexie and Evan and
Carole-Anne and her husband Mark Nagus of Kincardine, ON and their children
Amy and Sarah. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Richard Muench and sister-in-law
Marjorie Stroeder, both of Saskatchewan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Jim, her parents
Lawrence and Clara Stroeder, her in-laws, James and Lois Lavery, as well as her
siblings and siblings in law, Victor (Ellie) Stroeder, Edward (Ann) Stroeder, Sister
Mary Magdalene Stroeder, Bernard (Mildred) Stroeder, Peter (Bernice) Stroeder,
Imelda Mamer (Vincent), Mary Clare Kessinick (John), Joseph Stroeder, Sally
Muench, and George Stroeder.
Service will be at a later date, at the RCMP Chapel and Cemetery in Regina,
Saskatchewan. Memorial donations in Mary’s name may be made to the Heart and Stroke
Foundation of Canada, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Kathleen and I are deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Aunt Mary. She was a kind and gentle soul who brought warmth to every room she entered. From her early days in Humboldt to her many moves across Saskatchewan, Aunt Mary embraced life with quiet strength and compassion. She supported her family with love and grace, making every new house a home. Her legendary baking, love of curling, and joy in hosting others created lasting memories for all who knew her. Above all, Aunt Mary’s kindness touched our hearts deeply, and her spirit will be cherished always. Condolences to the family.
