Obituary

Thomas Moriyama, of Lucknow (formerly Guelph), passed away at the Alexandra Marine & General Hospital in Goderich on Sunday April 6, 2025 at the age of 76. He was born in London on September 21, 1948 son of the late Jean Sakiko (Hattori) and Toshiyuki Moriyama. Survived by brother Bob Moriyama of Toronto and sister Marg Moriyama of Chatham.

Among the many friendships forged over his lifetime, Tom shared a deep kinship for decades with both Simon and Stephanie.  Upon moving to Lucknow, he developed a special connection with Jamie and Bev, who loved and supported Tom until the very end.  Tom's affections will also be greatly missed by his furry friend Wally, as well as the many other pets and rescues he adored.

Tom always had an impact in the lives of those he met, whether through his incredible talents as an accomplished musician/songwriter or through his unique, thoughtful perspectives on life.  Philosophical by nature, Tom had remarkable historical knowledge combined with an expertise on all timely aspects of modern life.  This translated to a man who longed to see the world move forward with love and compassion, a desire revealed through his generous Food Bank donations, his many acts of kindness and the constant inspiration he provided.

Following Thomas’ wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In memory of Tom, please consider making a donation to your local Food Bank, Women’s Shelter or Lucknow Pet Rescue.

Tom was a big influence on me. I spent many evenings discussing the curious ways of the world with Tom. His insights often had me questioning things I had previously accepted as fact and our late night philosophical discussions over tea and cards, often ran on into the early morning. I feel richer to have known him.

Tom , you were such a kind soul. I really enjoyed our visits on the street and returning your dog. I often think about the day that we rounded up the baby raccoons and helped them across the street and your cat was right in there…. My condolences to the family and friends of Tom. 💐
