David Wayne “Woody” Atkinson, of Lucknow passed away peacefully at the Wingham Hospital, with his family at his side, on October 25, 2024. He was 85 years old. Loved husband of Carol (Helm) for 63 years. Dear father of David & Karen of Auburn, Steven, Ken & Linda both of Lucknow and Debra of Waterloo. Cherished grandpa of Jonathan (Samantha), Teresa, Melissa (Beth), Emily (Frank), Rebecca, Justin (Ashley) and Jessica (Dalton). Proud great grandpa of Sadie, Nora, Parker and Charlotte. He is survived by brothers-in-law John Helm, and Evans (Barb) Helm and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Dorothy & Glen Atkinson, and sisters-in-law Eunice Dunsmuir, and Mary Helm.
Wayne and Carol married in 1961 and built their lives together in Lucknow. Woody spent his entire career running up and down the roads both locally and all across North America. He made friends wherever he went and always had time to chat. Woody was an avid reader and was always looking for his next book. After retiring in 2004 Woody could be found taking in one of his Grandkids sporting events and hardly missed one once he was retired. He was a fixture in the warm room of the arena for many years. Woody also enjoyed keeping up on local current events with his many friends at Mary’s Restaurant.
We will miss him.

Sincerest condolences to Carol and family. Carol, I have many fond memories of the times we all spent together. Just a year ago now my daughter and I had a good visit with Wayne when we stopped by unexpectedly during a trip to Lucknow. Wayne had many friends, a wonderful sense of humour and kind heart. He will be sadly missed by many near and far.
Dear Carol, David, Steve, Ken, Debra and families!
I am so sorry to hear of Woody's passing. I have such fond memories of Woody and your home when growing up with your family. Woody always had a smile and a kind word when I did run in to him over the years.
May you find peace and comfort with all of your memories and may you keep them close.

Carol and family,
So sad to hear of Wayne's passing. He always had time to chat, both at the church and when I would stop in at Mary's. He was one of those who made me feel welcome when we lived in Lucknow. He will be missed.
God bless you as you pass through this difficult time.
Our sincerest sympathy Carol and family. Woody was a very kind and caring gentleman, and one of the best haulers the trucking industry had. A good friend to my dad Wib and mother Pearl. He will be missed by many. Larry and Verna
