Sharon Louise MacDougall (nee West), beloved wife of the late Allan Lloyd MacDougall, passed away at the Goderich Hospital on Tuesday May 28, 2024 at the age of 77. She was born on June 24, 1946 in Ashfiled Township, daughter of the late Richard and Jean West. Dear mother of Heather & Brian Bartlett of La Salle, David MacDougall of Fort McMurray and Marita and Simon Taylor of Goderich. Greatly missed by grandchildren Morgan, Clair, Alexandria, Roderick, Benjamin, Grace and Graham. Also survived by brother Jim West of Kintail, sister Marianne Smeltzer of Ripley, sister-in-law Grace Dollery of Bayfield and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers-in-law Elmer Smeltzer and Jim Dollery.
Sharon graduated from Nursing School in 1966 from St. Joseph’s Hospital in London. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Wingham & District Hospital until she became a stay at home mom to raise Heather, David and Marita. She was called back to work in labour & delivery at the hospital in 1982, helping many local babies arrive safely until her retirement in 2008, all the while helping Allan on the farm. She managed to find time to serve an active role in her community; a member of South Kinloss Presbyterian Church, a Sunday School Superintendent, President of the Women’s Missionary Society, member of the Kairshea Women’s Institute and Lucknow Lions Ladies.
She made some great memories with her neighbours from the 4th of Kinloss, work colleagues from the hospital, her family and especially her grandchildren. Sharon always had a funny quip to share in conversation that her new caregivers in Goderich Place loved her for! Sharon loved to cook, sew, watch her beloved Blue Jays (especially Bo!), and work away on her crossword puzzles. In the past few years, she struggled with her health and recently had been on kidney dialysis. Despite all her ailments she never complained. She was immensely proud of all her grandchildren for their achievements whether it be academics, sports, travels, and acts of kindness.
Visitation will be held from the MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow, on Saturday June 1, 2024 from 11AM- 1PM followed by the funeral service at 1 PM. Interment South Kinloss Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the Kidney Care Centre of Southwestern Ontario, Wingham Hospital Foundation, AMGH or the charity of your own choice.

Heather, David, Marita and families: It was 50 years ago this month we moved to the 4th and were neighbours for over 35 years. We have fond memories of all of you growing up, of sharing rides to swimming lessons and band practices, haying, silo filling and the days the cattle were sold. I remember a trip or two to Hamilton fabric shops, helping with some of the wedding planning and in the fall, enjoying the garden vegetables she'd bring over. When one of our kids had a cut or injury, I'd pop over to get your Mom's opinion on whether stitches were required. Many evenings were spent discussing the challenges of motherhood, some at the end of a hot, summer day, under the shade of the apple tree. She loved you and was so very proud of your many accomplishments. The grandchildren arrived and she could not have been more proud to show off photos as well as the beautiful christening gown she made. She was a talented lady. It became a tradition, when we became grandparents, for your Mom and Dad to come over and help us babysit on New Year's Eve. When they left the farm, it took us a long time to adjust to the missing glow of their yard light. We also had to adjust to fact they wouldn't be dropping over to share a beverage or give us some family news. Your Mom was a great neighbour, friend and you will miss her dearly. Treasure the memories. Bill and Donna

Sending condolences and sympathy to the West and MacDougall families
From attending Hemlock City public school, Ashfield Presbyterian Church and Lucknow High School I’ve known Sharon for many years
My favourite memory of Sharon was on my first day of high school. My first time riding on the high school bus!! She made that first morning so much easier when she approached me to help me navigate the high school hall and finding my home room. I’ve always appreciated that kindness.
May happy memories help you through the days and weeks ahead.

Sincere condolences to Marianne and Sharon’s family.
I worked with Sharon at WDH for 26 years. I remember her mainly in her role as an obstetrical nurse. She was kind and gentle and quick and thoughtful —everything that is needed in a labour and delivery ward. She also had a wonderful sense of humour. We survived many a delivery together!!! My sympathy to all of her family.

I'm so very sorry to read this about Sharon. I, too, worked with Sharon at WDH. We seemed to be stuck on nights together both in my Orderly days then later on as an RN. I always enjoyed Sharon. She was good for a laugh and liked a good time. My most sincere condolences to all.

My sincere condolences to all of Sharon’s family. I have wonderful memories of working along beside Sharon. Her kind, healing and caring hands touched many patients lives as she cared for even the tiniest babies as well as the frail elderly and all of those in between. I will remember her as being an amazing nurse and special coworker.

I’m so sorry for this loss. Knew Sharon well, and she was a great friend. Although I will be absent on Saturday, my love and support goes out too all the family and friends Peace be with you all and rip Sharon
To Sharons family my deepest sympathy on the loss of your mom. I worked many years with Sharon on OBS at WDH and we saw lots babies come into the world . Sharon was a kind person and caring coach to her labouring mons and an excellent nurse. Her quick wit and expressive face always let you know what she was thinking. To her children, we all knew what you guys were up to, your mom was always full of stories and very proud of her children and grandkids. Now Sharon go safely to the place where old nurses go when their shift on earth is finished and meet up with former staff from WDH that have arrived there before you...

I was shocked and sadden to hear the passing of Sharon. Please accept my sincere condolences to all of you and know that you are in my thoughts at this very difficult time. I was lucky to enjoy the company of both your mom and dad over the years, and of course with a few beverages. I have good memories of doing corn silage at the farm with Sharon stopping me occasionally to have a quick rye with her before me heading back to the field. I also recall the great meal she would prepare for all of us at the end of the day. Good times! Unfortunately I am unable to attend the visitation and service as I have plans in place. Hold onto the good memories, as i know there are many, and share those good memories in the days ahead to help you through this difficult time.
