Lorne Cook of Lucknow passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a brief illness on April 3, 2024 at South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine at the age of 87. He was the beloved husband of Marion (nee Hamilton) who predeceased him in 2015. Dear father of Sharon & Ron Johnson of Exeter, Michele & Jim LeGrand of Tiverton, Gerald & Lori Cook of Exeter, and Janice & David Eadie of Belmore. Missed by his 6 grandchildren Wesley & Amanda, Lisa & Reid, Alexander, William, Preston, and Kara & Matt. Proud great-grandpa of Emery, Hartley, Alexandria, Kade, Brynlee, Nixon, Eden, Ryan and Luke. Survived by his sister Elaine (Peter) Steer of Lucknow and sister-in-law Betty Cook of Kincardine. Predeceased by his brother Ivan Cook.
Lorne lived a busy and diverse life. He was born on June 1, 1936, in Ashfield Township to his late parents Evelyn (Reid) and Peter Cook. He met and eventually married Marion, who was raised not far from him in Ashfield Township. Together they farmed and raised their four children in the township. Lorne was a passionate farmer and enjoyed his work with animals and on the land. Lorne also worked for many years for Helm Welding. He was a councillor for Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township, and further served his community as a long-time member of the Lucknow Lions Club. When they retired Marion and Lorne moved into Lucknow. They enjoyed being part of the community and attending the Lucknow United Church. As an involved member of the Lucknow community, he is remembered by his friends and family for his warm smile and wry laugh. Lorne loved touring around the countryside to watch his grandchildren play baseball, soccer, hockey, dance, or curl. Many have fond memories of Lorne strumming his guitar or tickling the ivories on the piano; his love of music was infectious and brightened up any gathering.
When Marion died, and Lorne required more help, he moved to Tiverton Park Manor. While there, he received wonderful, compassionate care, for which his family is grateful. The family would also like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Kincardine Hospital for their kind professionalism during Lorne's last days.
Private Family Arrangements have been entrusted to MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow.

Lorne was a helper with my husband at the Legion Senior's dinners and a friend who was always happy and a joy to be around. He was missed when he moved to Tiverton by the whole coffee community.

Guys. I’m so sorry too get this news. Love your family, and send all my love and prayers and hugs at this time. I well understand your pain at this time. A horrible hole in the heart. I expect he and Barry are having a crown royal right now. The void is awful, but know I’m here if you ever need me. Many good chuckles and tunes over the years. He’s with Marion now, so you guys can also rest in peace Love you all. Betty

I was so shocked and sad to hear about Lorne. Lorne, Marion, and I had a great friendship when we were neighbours. They extended that friendship for me onto each and everyone of you, and they always tried to include me in some of the Cook gatherings and I always appreciated and enjoyed that. When we did get together we always had fun, from driving around in the back of the Shirley's pickup truck or just hanging out at their home. Lorne always wanted to keep his lawn looking the best and he always succeeded. We always shared stories on how to make our lawns better. I want you all to know that he thought the world of all you kids and grand kids, and was always so excited when the whole gang was coming home. After Marion passed away, he definitely lost a part of him as he loved her so much and it showed. He would drop by in his little red ford pickup at my place just to see what was going on and I always enjoyed our visits. I can almost hear his laugh now when I think of the many laughs we had. Since he moved to Tiverton, I didn't get a chance to see him any longer, and I do regret that. Although it is sad that he is gone here on earth, it does give me comfort to know that he is happy as he is now with Marion, as he truly missed her. I want all of you to know that you are all in my thoughts at this very sad time, and I am here for any of you anytime. Hold onto the good memories, as I know there are many, and share those good memories in the days ahead to help you through this difficult time.
So sad to hear of Lorne's passing. He was a good friend and we enjoyed so many evening listening to him playing the piano in many of our homes. My sympathy to the whole family.
Our condolences to all of Lorne’s family. Sure glad we finally got up to visit him last fall. He was a fun loving person who enjoyed life to the fullest.
